about usDedicated lawyers and staff

Our attorneys, N. Trey Pettlon and Ryan S. Ginie, represent clients in all criminal defense and personal injury matters, often taking cases to trial in state or federal courts. Both lawyers are life long residents of the area.  Trey grew up in Clay County, Missouri, attended North Kansas City High School and after four years of high school debate decided he'd like to argue with people for a living...well, that's probably not exactly what he decided, but he did decide to go to law school after graduating from the University of Missouri.  While attending Washburn Law School, Trey was very successful in Moot Court and won the chance to argue before Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia in New York.  During law school, Trey was selected to be an intern in DA Gene Olander's ground-breaking internship program for future prosecutors conducting trials including jury trials.  After graduating from law school, while some graduating law students were sending out dozens or even hundreds of resumes, Trey sent out three to local prosecutors offices.  In 1991, Trey became an Assistant District Attorney at the Johnson County DA's Office where he gained invaluable trial experience and the opportunity to meet Judges, prosecutors and many of the best attorneys in Kansas City.  He left the DA's office in March of 1994 to begin a private practice in criminal defense and representing plaintiffs in serious personal injury cases.  Trey has since won numerous verdicts for clients in criminal, wrongful death and personal injury jury trials in Kansas and Missouri.

Ryan grew up in Olathe, Kansas.  Trey and Ryan met when Ryan was just in high school and he expressed and interest in becoming a lawyer.  After graduating from K-State, Ryan followed his dream to UMKC Law School.  While attending law school, Ryan first worked as a clerk at Trey's office and then he had the opportunity to work at the Johnson County District Attorneys Office as a part of DA Paul Morrison's excellent internship program.  As part of the program, Ryan was granted a temporary license from the Kansas Supreme Court to handle trials and prosecute.  After graduating from law school and finishing a successful internship with the DA, Ryan was hired as an Associate with the Law Offices of N. Trey Pettlon.  In the years since, to say that Ryan has been prolific would be an understatement.  He is literally in court representing clients five days a week every week so you can be sure he has a lot of experience with cases like yours and in courts all around Kansas City.  Ryan has won both jury and bench trials for many, many clients charged with crimes ranging from serious felonies to misdemeanors such as DUI's, theft or battery.

Trey and Ryan are members of numerous civic and professional associations including the Johnson County Bar Association. Trey is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, a fellow in the Johnson County Bar Association, and the third-ever lifetime member of the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.  He is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Midwest Innocence Project.  Both Ryan and Trey are licensed to practice in Missouri and Kansas.  For more information about Trey and Ryan's accomplishments and background, check out their "Attorney Profiles".

Every law office needs an excellent and reliable staff as well.  Dedicated, conscientious paralegals to help with administrative matters, to run the office, schedule hearings, request police reports, accident reports, medical records and other discovery, to schedule appointments, help clients while we are in court and generally free us up so we can effectively represent our clients.  Terri McBee is our "everything" at the office.  She is at the office Monday through Friday to help us and to help our clients.  She has daily contact with the courts and police departments all around Kansas City as well.  Terri has worked for the office for over ten years, and she keeps up with the many changes in the courts and office technology by attending annual training seminars so she knows what she is doing.
